Caring For Your Emotions

Emotional self care is about connecting with your emotions.  You need to give yourself permission to experience your emotions, even the sad ones.  By acknowledging and then releasing your emotions many aspects of your life are improved.  Emotional self care does not mean you will never experience bad times, anxiety, or depression.  Instead you will gain better coping skills for those moments.  You gain control over the way you think, feel, and respond to life.

7 More benefits to Emotional Self Care

  1. Better Health
  2. Improved Mood
  3. Reduced Stress
  4. More Energy
  5. More Hopeful
  6. Better Productivity
  7. Improved Relationships

By now you may be thinking that all this sounds great, but your are too stressed out, busy, and tired to fit anything else into your schedule.  Even if you do find time, you are probably wondering what you can do to take care of your emotions.  Don’t worry there are many ways to care for your emotions that don’t require a lot of time.  Here is a list to get you started.  I plan to go more in depth into some of these in future blogs.

  • Journal
  • Listen to your favorite music
  • Tap into your creativity
  • Practice mindfulness
  • Meditate
  • Practice self compassion
  • Develop a habit of gratitude
  • Compliment yourself
  • Build supportive friendships
  • Learn to calm yourself

Pick something that entices you and give it a try.  Perhaps you want to tap into your creativity by knitting, painting, scrap booking, or coloring in an adult coloring book.  Perhaps you find your “inner critic” to be negative and want to try being compassionate by forgiving yourself or using positive affirmations.  You could try to calm yourself by using a stress ball or a favorite scented lotion.  Whatever it is you choose, try it several times before deciding whether you like it or not.  It also takes awhile to create a new habit.  Keep checking back with my blog for more ideas.
